Savoie is on the Swiss border of France well into the Alps. It is a visually stunning region which exports very little of its wine. The main grape varietal produced is Jacquere which has become one of my very favorite wines. We carry a couple of Jacqueres at different price points.
North of Savoie is the Jura. Birthplace of Louis Pasteur, Jura also produces wines from lesser known grapes such as Poulsard, Trousseau and the ancient Savignan grape as well as some unusual styles. Vin Jaune is a wine developed under a flor just like sherry and Macvin fortified wine has been made in this region long before Port came along. You’ll find both of these styles in our newly expanded Ports & Sherries section.
