Rosés, Greek Wines, Then Mom
8:00 am: Rosé and More Rosé
Spent the morning beginning to usher in the new rosés. The list will be rolling through the summer but right now we have rosés from Dominio del Aguila, Enderle & Moll, Eugene Carrel, Antidoto ‘Roselito’, Bodegas Olivares among others.
11:00 am: Greek Wine Seminar
At City Winer for the the Greek Wines Seminar with Ted Diamantis from Diamond Wine Importers put on by M.S. Walker. Ted really knows his stuff. His narrative of Greece as source of world-class wines produced on tiny estates was magical. He showed some great wines from Alpha Estates, Domaine Douloufakis Dafnios, Domaine Skouras, and Domaine Sigalas and he’s right—they were gorgeous and utterly affordable. You’ll definitely be seeing more Greek Wines in the Store.
6:00 pm: More Lentils and a Mishmash of Reds
As happens whenever I eat there, a dream of Oleana is still hanging around me the next day so I cook up a nice lentil and goat cheese salad with hazelnuts and parsley and then some scallops with roasted red peppers over wilted spinach for my son and my mother. Grabbed whatever I saw from the store on the way out and sampled them all with my crew for the evening. I got the last bottle of Bluxome Pinot Noir plus a couple of new Spanish reds that I recently brought in. The Bodegas Maranones ‘30000 Maravedies’ stands out with it’s earthy, slighty dirty Garnacha. La Montesa from Palacios Remondo is a soft, balanced Rioja full of bright red fruit and a little spice. Always a winner.
