California wine prices are rising significantly, including the price of Kendall Jackson Chardonnay. With this in mind, we conducted an in-store tasting comparing Chardonnays at a similar price point. Here’s what we found:
A LA CARTE CHARDONNAY $16/ 750ml
The hands-down winner. Sourced from excellent vineyards in Solano County & Russian River Valley, whole cluster fermented with indigenous yeasts, malolactic arrested to preserve acidity, aged 9 months in French oak. A beautiful, pale gold wine that is full of honeysuckle, melon rind and orange blossom on the nose, followed with honeyed stone fruit and orange zest on the finish. Bright, tight, and ready for drinking.
iCONIC ‘SIDEKICK’ CHARDONNAY $18/ 750ml
Sourced from vineyars from Anderson Valley to Lodi, whole cluster fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. Focusing on fresh bright fruit and minerality, the SK Chard is full of apricot and white peach flavors and herbal, floral aromatics.
CALVET BOURGOGNE BLANC $18 / 750ml
From Burgundy, an affordable and delicious Chardonnay, aged partially in neutral French Oak, bright and fresh with a pronounced creamy mid-palate. An excellent value.
