Happy Thanksgiving PSW&S friends! As we head into the holiday season, we truly want to say thank you to all of our customers who kept us smiling during these crazy pandemic times. Thank you for choosing to shop local and for your support through good times and bad.
Now let’s get to a new drink recipe, shall we? Clearly we love tequila here at PSW&S, as we’ve featured quite a few drinks featuring the spirit over the past months. Well get ready for another one, we aren’t done yet. What do Thanksgiving and margaritas have in common? Well really nothing, but when you combine flavors that compliment the fall holiday, you get the Thanksgiving Margarita.
I was playing around on Pinterest one day when this recipe popped up. I said hey, why not, and dived right in to this cider based version of the classic tequila cocktail. I gave the original recipe a shot, which used your standard apple cider, pear juice, tequila, triple sec, lime juice, and a salt rim. It was great, but not exactly what I was looking for from this fall cocktail.
To spice it up a little, I decided to swap out the standard non-alcoholic cider with an unfiltered alcoholic version. I went with Downeast Winter, which already has a nice flavor that reminds you of the holiday season. The OG recipe uses a salt rim, which I didn’t feel matched the flavors we were searching for here. Easy fix, I swapped out the salt for some cinnamon sugar which definitely complimented the beverage nicely.
Tequila choice? Well Fortaleza Reposado of course, but you can use your favorite brand (just please choose authentic 100% agave tequila, it’s the only true choice). You could use a Blanco tequila, I’m sure it will taste divine, but if you liked the aged flavoring in a Reposado, they enhance the spiced flavors of the drink perfectly.
So for Thanksgiving this year, give yourself a break from the standard cocktails and give this divine drink a try. I was pleasantly surprised how much I liked it once I tweaked the recipe. It’s new, it’s fun, and why wouldn’t you want to treat yourself to something like that after all this year has put us through. Happy Thanksgiving friends, may it be filled with joy and scrumptious food, paired with libations that will make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Salud!
The Thanksgiving Margarita
2 oz Downeast Winter cider
2 oz Pear juice
2 oz Reposado tequila
1 oz Cointreau or triple sec
Lime for rimming the glass and a little squeeze of juice
Cinnamon sugar for rim
Cinnamon stick and apple slice for garnish if desired
————
Take a cocktail or margarita glass and run a lime wedge along the rim. Dip the rim of the glass into the cinnamon sugar until it’s coated. Add ice to the glass and squeeze the lime wedge over it.
Combine the tequila, Cointreau, and pear juice into a cocktail shaker. Add ice to top of liquid. Shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds.
Strain the mixture into the rimmed glass filled with ice. Top with the Downeast cider and give it a little stir. Garnish with a cinnamon stick and apple wedge.
Sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labor. Share with friends and give thanks for good libations. Cheers!
